Why Dentures Affect My Speech?

A denture is foreign in your mouth, and you and your tongue need to adapt to your new denture.  It is new in your mouth, it feels different and your tongue needs to function around the denture, when talking and eating.  But in time, the tissue will adapt to it, and eventually it will feel normal to you.  Practice speaking at home, in front of a mirror or with a family member.  As your tongue adjusts to the denture it also learns it’s positioning for speaking.   Most functions will return to normal, especially if implant solutions are provided for the patient to create a stable, permanent base for their denture teeth to rest against.
